Privacy policy

Read Me a Tale ("we", "us") is run by Tulmaker LLC, an Arizona company. This policy explains what we collect when your family uses readmeatale.com, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what we need to make your stories, we keep them private to your family, and we never sell your information or use it for advertising.

Who the service is for

Accounts are for parents and guardians who are 18 or older. Children enjoy the stories with a grown-up, but they don't make accounts, and the service is not meant for children to use on their own. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address and your password. We store the password only in scrambled (hashed) form, so no one, including us, can read it.
  • What you type to make a story: character names and descriptions, the listener's age, the theme, the setting and the length. We suggest using first names or nicknames only. Please don't enter last names, addresses, schools or other details that could identify a child.
  • What we make for you: the stories and pictures, saved in your family's private library.
  • Billing: Stripe handles payments. We never see or store your full card number. We keep your Stripe customer number, your plan and its status, and Stripe keeps your billing name and address so it can work out sales tax.
  • Technical information: a sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in, and basic server logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of visit) that our hosting provider keeps for security and troubleshooting.

How we use it

  • To write stories and draw pictures when you ask, and to save them in your library
  • To run your account, free trial and subscription, and to count stories against your plan
  • To send emails you need, such as password resets and billing notices
  • To keep the service safe, prevent abuse and fix problems
  • To answer you when you contact us

We don't sell or rent your information, we don't share it for advertising, and we don't show ads.

Companies that help us run Read Me a Tale

We share information only with the companies below, and only what each one needs to do its job:

  • Anthropic writes the stories. It receives the story details you type.
  • OpenAI draws the pictures. It receives a short description of a scene from your story.
  • Render hosts the website and its database.
  • Cloudflare manages our domain and stores the pictures.
  • Stripe handles payments, subscriptions and sales tax.
  • Resend sends our emails.
  • Google Fonts provides the lettering on our pages, so your browser contacts Google to load it.

Anthropic and OpenAI say they don't use information sent through their business services to train their AI models. They may keep it for a limited time to watch for misuse. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of selling or reorganizing the business, in which case this policy would still apply to your information.

Cookies

We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use analytics services that follow you around the web. Stripe uses its own cookies on its checkout and billing pages to prevent fraud.

How long we keep things

We keep your account, stories and pictures until you delete them. When you delete your account (on the Account page), we delete your login, stories and pictures right away and cancel your subscription. Copies may remain in backups for up to 30 days before they're overwritten. Stripe keeps payment records for as long as tax and financial laws require.

Your choices

  • Read your stories at any time in your library.
  • Change your card, cancel or see invoices on the Account page.
  • Delete your account and everything in it on the Account page.
  • Email us to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it or to delete it. We'll answer within 30 days.

Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have legal rights to know, access, correct or delete your personal information. You can use them by emailing us, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.

Keeping it safe

Your library is private to your family's account. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, private picture storage with links that expire, and access only for people who need it. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we'll email you or show a notice in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
